Three years ago I joined in on Erin Russek's "My Tweets" hand applique quilt. Erin is a wonderful hand applique'r and makes the most beautiful patterns to share with her bloggers. And get this, they are free for a limited time!
I had never applique'd by hand before and learned so from Erin's blog when I started this project. I was rather disappointed that my hands couldn't take holding a needle for long, so I didn't quite finish the My Tweets journey -- though I did get to starting block 9 before quitting. I couldn't quite bring myself to finish block 9 so that I'd have a 3 x 3 block quilt. So the blocks have been hanging in my sewing room for about a year and I've been debating on what to do with the "odd" number of 8 blocks.
Fast forward to November 2013 when this fantastic Quilt Along hosted by AQS hit some of my favorite blogs. It is called "Tone It Down" and is a Burgoyne Surrounded block in a fun fashion. As soon as I saw it, I knew how I was going to make use of the My Tweets blocks I had! This week I found a little time to put it together and here's what I came up with.
I'm tossing around the idea of adding a scallop border. It's something I've been meaning to try but haven't had the right quilt to do it on. What do you think, scallops or something else? I could really use some ideas!
