A Quilt for My Grandbaby
Monday, January 20, 2014
I'm so happy I was able to finish this little wall hanging in time for my grandson Roran's first birthday this Saturday. My daughter wanted a bright, colorful quilt for his nursery, one with lions, one like the Hooterville quilt I made a few years ago and gave to my other daughter.
I made a couple of changes. Of course, the lions, and the center has Roran's name. One major mistake that I hope not to repeat in the future, I cut the lions' background fabric into a slightly different size than the Hooterville owls, and then I pieced them together and had to design the rest of the quilt to fit. It turned out to be a bit of a nightmare trying to get everything to fit and piecing the quilt from the outside in.
Here's the Hooterville quilt. As you can see, a lot of the same fabrics are in the owl and lion quilt.
Roran's birthday is Saturday and the plan is to surprise my daughter then with it. She knows it's done but doesn't know what it looks like.
I have a new little toy, another ruler to add to my collection! It is made by Plank Industries, the company that makes the A1 longarm machine, and Judy at The Green Fairy uses it exclusively. I ordered it from her when she had them back in stock but they can also be purchased from the maker. I'm in LOVE with the eight 1 inch etched lines! I have a few straight rulers but none with so many wonderful lines. The little "handle" is nice, too. I thought to order one a couple of years ago but I already had maybe four straight ones and didn't think I needed another but boy was I wrong!
Well, now that I've finished an older quilt project, I'm feeling motivated to finish another. Hmm, it might be time to pull out that applique project that's been on the back burner for far too long!
