A Batik Beauty

Saturday, September 28, 2013

My husband's second cousin pieced this quilt. It is only the second quilt she has made and the first that she did all on her own. And she did a great job. I mean, look at the difficulty factor of the pattern!

The quilt came to me via Texas with a prepackaged roll of Fairfield's poly-fil Quilters 80/20 Batting. At first my impression was that the batting was going to be a little on the thin side -- I mean it fit in a fairly small package! Will it fair okay with the tugging and handling of quilting a quilt so big, 99 x 89 inches, on the longarm? But after a fluff up in the dryer to remove the creases, I came realize this batting is very similar in weight, feel, and loft to Hobbs 80/20 and was every bit as stable. And quilted up exactly like Hobbs 80/20, which is one of my favorite batts that has a little loft.

We went with a variegated Superior Rainbows thread that matched the colors in the quilt top. It turned out pretty with the Two-Fold Feathers panto. The quilt colors are every bit as vibrant in person as the pictures show them to be! It's a stunner :)

Thanks for letting me quilt your quilt, Lindsey! I hope you like it!
